Monday, June 11, 2018 – In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez

In the Time of the Butterflies, written by Julia Alvarez, is the intriguing story surrounding one family whose unlikely daughters become freedom fighters against the ruthless dictatorship of Trujillo in the Dominican Republic in the late 1950s. Sub-plots include each daughter’s relationship with their respective husband and friends as well as their parents. Please note: the June selection was changed from The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. We apologize to anyone who has already purchased that book but it was decided, after additional research, it was inappropriate for our group.

Our Book and Film Club is open to all interested adults in the area.  All meetings and materials are in English.  The meetings will be held on the second Monday of each month, unless otherwise indicated.  When are discussing a book, the meeting will start at 7:30PM.
