Summer Programs Summer Reading Club 2011 "Photography and our Culture " (in Hebrew) Digital Storytelling: Summer Camp (in Hebrew)
Summer Reading Club 2011 "Photography and our Culture " The purpose of the reading club is to encourage reading - each participant will read for at least 16 hours during summer vacation and participate in an exciting weekly activity. At each activity, we will spend a little time discussing the books that we loved. Then we will have an exciting experience which will teach us about the world in which we live. Using and learning about photography, we will see our own lives through a different lens. For “Gan Chova” – sixth grade; 90 shekels per child for 8 fun-filled weeks. Sign up at the library and get ready for a summer of reading and science! All activities will take place once a week on Mondays or Wednesdays in the library. The sessions will be in Hebrew. Details right here Session one- Introduction (Mon 4.7, Wed 6.7) We will familiarize ourselves with a camera and the program and have our first photography lesson. Session two- Objects can tell a cultural story (Mon 11.7, Wed 13.7 ) We will choose an object that is meaningful to us or our family, we will tell its story and photograph it. (Please bring a meaningful object from home.) Session three- Photographing values (Mon 18.7, Wed 20.7) We will define and describe values such as love of the land, conservation, friendship etc. We will go out and photograph these values. Session four- Poetry, values and pictures (Mon 25.7, Wed 27.7) What is the connection between a poem and a picture? We will investigate poems and stories and connect them to photographs and pictures. Session five and six - Field Trips – Photographing our communities’ values (Mon 1.8, SUN 7.8. Wed. 3.8, 10.8) The library and Matnas are situated at a junction between communities. We will go out and photograph our neighborhood and community. Session seven- Creating a photography exhibit (Mon 22.8, Wed 24.8) We will gather the pictures taken at the meetings, choose the best ones and create pretty frames. We will add explanations and thoughts and create our own photography exhibit. Finale! Come See our Photography Exhibit (Mon 22.8, Wed 24.8) Goodbye Party. We will invite parents to the exhibit which we created, display our pictures and explain the process. We will receive certificates and prizes. Grades below refer to GOING INTO the grade mentioned. 3rd grade can go either way depending on your child’s maturity – You decide. 6th graders welcome.
Choose a group that meets on Monday OR Wednesday 8 weeks in July and August, 90nis/child (includes materials). 80nis for additional siblings. Monday , Aug 8 is Erev Tisha B'Av. Sessions that day will be on Sunday Aug 7. Signup IN ADVANCE at the library! Reading and experimenting at the Benjamin Children's Library! Digital Storytelling: Summer Camp Does your 11-13 year old like to express their creativity on the computer? Are they full of stories, just waiting to get out? The digital storytelling camp encourages creative writing using animation tools to bring stories to life. Campers will create a website to share their work with family and friends. For parents:
Campers will learn the elements of good story telling, and work in
groups to practice creative writing and storyboarding. All campers
will receive web space to upload projects to their own website, which
they will create during the course of the camp, as well as whatever
