What's New at the Library

Mapal (Active Learning Center), our after-school homework program,  to help immigrant children to succeed in school, is very effective. More than 110 immigrant students  come to the library on a regular basis, ie. four times a week to receive assistance with their schoolwork. Professional staff members and several high school volunteers are there to offer help. The reference area upstairs is been bubbling with students, energy and work! Kol Hakavod to all involved!

Mapal has another program on Mondays which is funded by The Gimmel Foundation. The purpose of this program is to foster leadership skills amongst teenagers. The theme is teaching values through the Tanach. The teens tutor younger children so that the learning is multi-dimentional for both the teens as well as the younger students.

Weekly story-hour for parents and tots – Each Wednesday at 2:30 parents and small children, age 2-4, come for a fun treat at the Library. A Bat Sherut, (national service young woman) reads an exciting story and the children enjoy an arts and crafts project related to the theme of the day. They have explored animals, foods, seasons and activities - through books!

Plans for the expansion of the library continue!  The library staff and board are hard at work, with the goal of providing more space for all of the library’s varied activities and thousands of visitors.  We have a generous donor who has offered us $100,000 contingent on our raising matching funds.  Let’s try to make this happen!
